Working with students from the past more than 15 years I can understand the feelings of the students fully when they are confused and their goals are not decided. Because of this they dont even focus on their final exams and lack concentration .They also have anxiety. After becoming a career counsellor we make short term goals for the students so that they can work on that and their profile will be strong enough to get admission in any college or university. Clarity is the key for success if students are clear enough what they are going to do next . so they can focus more on the goals. On the other hand parents who really want the child to become something and  their child wants to become something else so both parent and student are not on the same page. parents usually guides students from their experiences which were having in their Times. At their times back in nineties there were only 9 to 10 careers to choose from but in modern era more than 1200 careers are there to choose from even parents are not aware of this. student sometimes take decision for their careers due to parents pressure or peer pressure. They Persie something which is actually not suitable for their interests and passions and finally sometimes they drop out of the college. so its a huge mistake and waste of time and money so its better to consult before making any decision which will affect their whole life. As a counsellor we also suggest some psychometric test to know the aptitude and personality of the child and then we combine interest, skills, aptitude and personality together to reach out to a course and career where success rate of the students are higher. In this career I came due to one more reason which are my own kids and my brother in laws daughter. my niece was having commerce with maths and maths was not the subject she like but she took maths due to the peer pressure and then in college she was indecisive what to do her father wants her to purse you air hostess course because it was his parents dream that that child fly in airlines.  the student also pursue BBA where she was doing extremely well but part time she opted for Air hostess course after completing the college she actually joined airlines named Indigo airlines where she worked only for three months after taking three months training she went to another City from where she has to operate her job after 3 months she realised that this job is not meant for her it was only his fathers pressure where she choses this career then leaving everything behind she came back to home and then joint MBA what she actually wants to do. In the meantime I became a career counsellor.

I suggested her to take a psychometric test she took that test and in that test she realised that designing was her top priority according to her interest skills and aptitude and she actually wants to pursue that. now she is doing a course in designing as well but this is a total waste of time and money for the child and the parents if you keep experimenting on your own then it will be total waste of money and precious time. now she realises if she would have consulted a career counsellor while she was having admission in college she might be clear about designing and she would have done the courses and she can be settled at this point but now she is doing designing courses. I came across many cases as a career counsellor where parents dont agree with their child and the career counsellor . Parents pressures their child to take up some courses which are not according to their interest, skill ,aptitude and personality so how can a child succeed in such a type of career where he doesnt have interest. What does a father and mother of a child want? They want the success and fame of their child wherever he goes. So let the child choose a career according to his interest, skills, aptitude and personality. I would like to share one more story of a child who wants to join a top engineering college and drop the year out for preparations every year 1 crore students passed out from grade 12 in India but India doesnt have University and colleges to accommodate 1 crore students. so the competition is so high that students didnt get admission even after dropping a year because next year also one crores students came out of 12th so its not a good option to waste a year for preparation only in this case we also guide that the students can move to other countries also for their studies if they have a good budget according to their budget they can decide on country where they want to go if they have less budget then also there are few countries like Germany where education is free they can choose from those countries. As a counsellor and teacher I faced many embarrassment and criticism movements also while counselling the child when parents dont want to listen to anything they are so stubborn for their child to pursue a particular course which is not even relevant to the student and student dont want to do it in that case even they ask for refund of money sometimes because they are not aligned with the choices of their child.
